I'm glad I'm not the only one that doesn't get that. what, should I be insulted that you called my mom smart? makes no sense to me.

Don't you think it might be a play on those " You're mom's so stupid......" jokes. Maybe it is a put down to you because you are trying to impress people with your intelligence.
