I bet it's the diaper. Diapers are pretty good at not leaking around the legs, but sometimes the liquid will find it's way out of any available gap, which usually happens at the waist-band. Try a different brand of diaper or slightly folding the waist-band in a little bit.

Baby's pee can travel all over the place, especially if the diaper is full! Try changing the diaper more often to prevent leakages.
When this happens with my baby, it usually helps to either change the diaper brand or move up to a large size of diaper. Kids grow up so fast in the first year that they outgrow diaper sizes at lightening speed!

I had this same problem with all 4 of mine. You have to change newborns diapers alot. The formula makes them pee alot. And when their diaper gets too full, it will leak from the back side...not the bottom.
Also if you have him wrapped in blankets laying in the same position, then he will start sweating. Don't wrap him up too tight, and don't let him stay in the same spot for a long peroid of time.

If he's bundled too warmly, he will sweat. If he's wet his diaper, it can run toward the back... Change his diaper and make sure he's not roasting... the wetness should go away.

Maybe for sweating at the back or he is urinating . Give him diaper and do not put him steady on his way of lying.

My son stil does this...most of the time its sweat but there are times when his urine leaks all the way to his back. Just wait till his poop reaches all the way up his back...Trust me if you ever put him in a jumper and you can tell hes tryin gto poop take him out, fast... just lye him down because it will creep all up there.

Try going up one size in the diaper. This always worked for my kids when their diapers leaked.
