Hi,

I am woking in a small company in india. I've 5 years of exp. & getting a decent salary(above 7L). But I dont want to get stuck into common companies.
I want to be in the top companies like Google, BEA, Microsoft, Yahoo, Lehman Brothers, Goldman Sach. etc. AND settle in US.

My current educational qualification is not that spectacular(BE Mechanical).
Does is makes sense to do MS in Computer Science at this stage?
I am 26 years old by the way.

What should I do? I want the best out of my career.

Thanks,
Karan.

Well based on what you said, a masters would be best for you as a Masters will got a long way. My dad has a masters, in electrical engineering, and works as a principal software architect, making about $150k a year. A masters will go a long way. It's also not just about the degree, but about your problem solving skills and sometimes creativity.

hai karan its very nice to read that ur a b.tech in mechanical & ur currently working in a software firm.

coming to ur doing MS in US computer science is a lucrative idea but this issue is nt only pertaining to ur age but also depends on ur financial status bcos to do an MS in US is very costly as u can see.

the position of indian students in US isnt that gud too after the 9/11 attacks the whites r the blacks donot talk to indians in campuses there,& there r other aspects like food & culture that u need to adjust to.

if u really want to go to US i wud suggest u to think more abt the financial side bcos what if u dont land in a job after ur MS & then to stay in US u wud have to either pursue higher studies like phd r land ina odd job.

so do consider these options too before u decide,to tell u very frankly i believe u can learn sum software courses like SAP r ERP & then move on to other companies , the requirement for SAP professionals is high in US now so u can opt for that course of action.

if u can learn sap u can fly to US thru a job to move on in ur career u can even optfor MBA in prestigious institutions like IIM's thru CAT given ur work experience & with an MBA degree u can land up in jobs in certain companies like goldman sachs if u opt for finance as ur specialisation.

do take a gud decision & all the very best

since you already have 5 years of experience its advisable that you do masters. when your masters and experience combine together you will have a booming carreer coming your way. its easier for you to get into any good companies you desire with these qualifications.if you get the oppurtunities to do masters dont ever miss it.

A B.S. degree isn't what it used to be. Try getting that M.S. then you can have an office overlooking the cubicle sea.
