Judy was addicted to uppers and downers ever since she was a teen and was never able to overcome it. She took the drugs because the movie studio she belonged to insisted upon it. (In the old days stars had contracts with one movie studio who pretty much owned them.) She was also an alcoholic and try she did to stop drinking but it didn't work. I don't know why but alcoholics are often too thin. And Judy was often very thin. She often suffered nervous breakdowns and died at a relatively young age. She had an incredible voice; particularly when she was younger. Even though her singing changed it became more mature and you could feel her pain whenever she sang.
