There are two possibilities here. You can try the default password. All network operating systems have a default user and a default password installed with the initial installation of the network operating system. These are well known and published. Try them and see what you get. If the administrator changed the password, you are out of luck. In my experience as a network admin for a NT network, the first thing they tell you is to change the admin password to gibberish so no one can guess what it is, and then to create another admin account which is used to administer the rest of the system. Your odds of guessing a password, if the admin is smart, are quite remote. The password I used was a combination of letters and numbers. For example, my first telephone number was Hinsdale 1147, so I picked hin1147 as the pass word for the account. Who could guess that was the password for the main admin account unless they knew me and what my first phone number was and also knew I would use that combination of letters and numbers? A dictionary attack on the password would likely fail because of the letter number combination I chose even though for me, it would trivial for me to remember. So, to get a password for an account is most likely remote if you are simply guessing or trying a dictionary attack profile, if the network admin is as good as I am.

If your admin is any good he will have set a very difficult password to guess, using no information relating to himsef, mixing upper and lower case letters mixed with numbers. He will also be using logging, any attempt to access it will be emailed to him with details of the machine attempting the login. If you make any attempt at this it will be seen long before you get it.

Simple, if you don't know it, or know someone who knows it...and you can't guess it, use ERD Commander. Search for it if you don't know what it is. You can boot off of it and change the admin password.
