I'm a native - and for the record, it doesn't suck - but if your purpose is to keep more people from moving here...earthquakes. Always freak them out about the earthquakes and the "big one" that is looming.
Other options:
Housing costs - California was named in a study as having 5 of the top 10 most expensive cities to live in the country. They used earning potential v. costs of living.
Traffic - it sucks if you don't know the tricks. Non-natives are baffled at the traffic. Us locals know the way around.
Smog - convince them lung cancer is inevitable.
Hope this helps!

It rains alot in Eureka, and that's foggy alot in San Francisco. Eureka is mostly a small city as city sizes pass in California, besides the shown fact that it continues to be the "mandatory city" for the North Coast. The coastline is often chilly and not one you may assume in California. that's often surrounded by way of mountains and extensive preserves of eye-catching Rewoods and different forests on all factors different than to the west, the place the sea is. that's a minimum of a 5 or 6 hour stress to the closest enormous cities. yet i assume while you're finding for a small friendly city Eureka may well be a semi-sturdy determination. San Francisco is the wonderful metropolitan city in California, different than la. The mornings are often foggy or cloudy, however the afternoons are often sunny. that's actual the main mandatory city of Northern California. the persons there are particularly friendly and liberal, constantly open to new human beings and new concepts. the city is working very stressful to alter right into a "green" city. The site visitors is often heavy interior the mornings and evenings, on the two public transportation and the highways. SF is honestly between the main costly cities to stay in, and various of the city is domicile to prosperous and in any different case prosperous human beings. that's extremely different, and has an extremely super Asian inhabitants. SF worldwide Airport became into as quickly as the busiest interior the US and continues to be particularly nicely used. you will would desire to pay a toll to get out of the city going north and east, because of the fact the only thank you to get out is thru crossing a bridge. besides the shown fact that that's amazingly a deal pondering you get to stress during two of the main commonplace bridges interior the worldwide on a commonly used foundation. Like I stated, Eureka is extra of a small oceanside city, mutually as San Francisco is a lots larger metropolitan city.

OK..I have lived here for over 25 years and I absolutely love the San Francisco area. And having visited family and friends over most of the country, you could not pay me enough money to LEAVE california.
the only drawback I can think of is high cost of living. but that is all relative. You would probably make more money california, but have bigger amounts in mortgage or rent.
California the state itself is so diverse. If it were its own country, we would have a stronger economy than canada. We have everything from the beaches, snow sports, etc. and all activities involving the outdoors. It is the center of the high tech community, movies, entertainment, etc.
You'd be hard pressed to find that combination anywhere else.
beyond that, I can't help you.
And for poster mang above...how can you have polluted water in So Cal from Mexico, you are stealing it from us in northern california via the Aquaduct that runs next to I-5 in LA. STate tax is not 10% either. It is 7.75% in Napa County. Iwhatever else above that is city local taxes. Get your fact straight.

Too many people, too close to the border so most people speaks another language, rent and home buying is too high, and everyone wants to live here so it's too crowded, and finally as they said on the news tonight the gas prices are so high that food prices are ridiculously high. The only good things are the weather and there are lots of things to do including amusement parks and celebrity sightings.

Sounthern California, specifically San Diego doesn't suck but here are some downsides that you can use to dissuade your friend...
-Expensive
-Illegals everywhere
-Traffic bad at some times, I am lucky to have a schedule that avoids it completely
-Polluted water from unsanitary Mexico
-Tweakers and drugs everywhere(cold be a + ??)
-10% state tax!!!!!!!!! BOO!!!
Other than that it's great, you should move here!

It s a great place to live if you like a shrinking economy that businesses are afraid to invest in, or a one party government that always wants to increase taxes, or especially if you are a liberal (not in the classic sense of the word). Those are the reasons I moved back to Texas.

California is expensive. The government will raise the tax on residents for every little thing. The minute the city needs MAINTENANCE for things like pothole-repair, they need to tax you for that, too, claiming all the tax you pay does not cover it. They will find ways to tax you for everything and anything. State will claim to be stricter on guidelines and regulations,to serve the consumer, when what they're really doing is finding more ways to tax you or charge you for things. Don't move here
