When an American military officer (many attribute it to General Pershing) said these words at Lafayette's grave site, "Lafayette, we are here.".
This was America grown up and able to come to the aid of the country, France, which helped America become an independent nation.

Washington accepting the surrender of Yorktown from Cornwallis. Actually, their adjutants handled the actual handing over of the sword, but you catch my drift.
Some others:
Accepting the surrender of the Japanese and signing the papers on board the USS Missouri.
The moon landing in 1969.
Winning the ice hockey gold medal in the 1980 Winter Olympics.
The opening of Ellis Island to process the multitudes of immigrants that were entering the country at the time to start a new life.

George Washington voluntarily resigning his commission as general following the revolution and setting the stage for lasting democracy;
Lincoln deciding in 1864 that he would rather be right then be president and continuing his efforts to hoold the union together;
Passage of the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote;
Kennedy deciding that a civil rights bill would be the best thing for the nation and submitting a comprehensive bill to congress;
And that's as recent as I'm going to go. there is no One moment that is the most proud, but a bunch of great ones.

I'd have to say when we won the war for independence.
At that moment we were free to build a new country.
Now we are like the greatest! And it all started there!

The signing of the Declaration of Independence. All those men knew they would be punished severely if caught and they did it anyway.
