im doing this science project for school, and the question is, do all spiders have the same shape and stuff? and you're suppose to collect them from like your house and stuff and examine then, but i dont have any spider webs at home and im not sure if it would be good to try and search it, so can you tell me if all household spider webs look basically the same?

Not really, no.

Most garden spiders make the classic spider web you see all the time...but plenty of spiders make other interesting shapes.

Black Widows, for example, have no organized shape to their web. It's just a jumble of different lines to let them know where food is, it doesn't really trap the food at all.

Funnel Web spiders and Trapdoor spiders make a tunnel like structure out of web where they can live and ambush prey that gets too close.

Do searches on those spiders, I'm sure you'll get examples of what their webs look like.

Good luck with the project!

Stella makes a good point- While different types of spider spin different types of web (everything from familiar orb webs to tubes, bowls, flat sheets, triangles, and so forth), each web made by each spider is unique. Each web is a creation affected by the interactions of such things as spider size, web location, spider health, and probably many more. I doubt you could ever find two webs spun by the same spider that are identical. Still, they would be recognizable as spun by that type of spider, and not some other type, just as all Weeping Willows are recognizable even though every Weeping Willow is unique.

Why not try searching for "spider web" with Yahoo images? You're bound to find photos of different shaped webs. Heck, even the consistency of the web is different, depending on the spider.

I always thought the saying that went for snowflakes also went for spider webs --- no two are alike.
