there are 11 girls & 8 boys for a total of 19 students
the class average is 82 so
82=x/19 where x is the total score
x=82*19=1558 points
the girls scored 966 points
the boys scored 1558-966=592 points

b) 592
is correct

the class average is 82. There are a total of 19 students in the class (11 girls and 8 boys). Therefore there were a total of 1558 points scored on the test ( 19 students X 82 points per student).
The 8 boys thus scored a total of 592 points (1558 points minus the girls total of 966).

The answer is B. 592...

To find the answer this is the equation set-up
You are given that the overall average is 82 and that there are 8 boys and 11 girls in the class, therefore there are 19 people in the class.
82=x/19 --> where x is the total class score
82(19)=x
x=1558

You are given that the total points for the girls is 966. Therefore...
966+y=1558 --> where y is the total points for the boys
y=1558-966
y=592

Hope this helped!

There are 19 people in class (11 girls, 8 boys) unless someone is a certified transsexual. So they scored a total of 19 x 82 points or 1558 points. We know that the girls accounted for 966 points, so 592 points were scored by the boys.

To solve this question you need to determine the total number of students in the class, which in this case is 19. I presume that by average the question is referring the the 'mean' score which is the total number of points earned by all the students divided by the number of students. Therefore to determine the total number of points earned by the boys you would multiply 82 by 19 (points by students) and then subtract the girls' total of 966 to get the boys' total.

step 1: 82 x 19 = 1558
step 2: 1558 - 966 = 592
Answer is B.

to answer this
first you add up the number of students which is 19 (11g and 8b)
the class average is 82
so you multiply number of students by class average (82x19)
82
x19
738
+820
1558= total
-966
592= boys score

so answer is b)592
