because we select for a singer based on TALENT - yeah based on talent
which is unusual because most young people that sing these days only make it because they have connections or a pretty face and lip sync or reley on computers to make their vioce sound better than it really is
on american idol - its the real deal - those people actually sing

It's a lame reality show. Most of the contestants have little to no talent at all. And worse, many of the songs from the lists are difficult to emulate unless you're a seasoned professional.
It's a staged and fixed show. Howard Stern has proved this. Your votes mean nada. Simon Cowell is a lame *** producer and wouldn't know poop from shinola if it came up bit him on the rump!
In fact, Cowell was live on the Stern show once and heard a young guy come in and sing acapella the theme from the first Spider Man movie. Simon bashed him. Hard. Told him he was a no talent loser. Turned out the guy was none other than Chad Kroger from Nickelback. Simon was humbled. Boy did he back tread!

This is the first season I've watched it, but yes I'm fascinated with it. I don't think I've missed but 1 episode since the top 12 or so. I like hearing the "normal" people sing, and kind of feel a part of their journey. I like watching most anybody sing really, and MTV, VH1, all those types of things suck and are filthy.

Hi-Because it's entertaining and fairly "mindless". With all of the politics going on-not to mention the war...music and sports are our favorite spectator activities. The music also has a very calming effect and we can cheer for our favorite singer; and watch what may be the beginning of a "dream come true". Harmless and uplifting, both at the same time.

For me its entertainment and fun and very interesting. I like it and have since season 1, and I'm a 55 year old grandma. I guess its just one of those shows you like it or don't like it. The ones that don't like it shoul stop doggin the show and go watch something else, instead of making it an issue for everyone else. Todays T.V.'s have lots of channels to choose from.
