Do you just want to cringe when someone says............?

can I ask you a personal question? Especially a co-worker?

I always say" yes you can but I may not answer"

My co-workers are pretty good, but we have volunteers who come in who are constantly getting into peoples business. Usually I speak to them in short sentences, or "yes" and "no" answers. When they figure out that I'm not a talker, they usually just leave me alone. Then I don't have to go through the "cringing" scenario.
