buy a dual cpu mother board and then two macthing CPU's
always keep in mind hyperthreading (it makes each cpu into a virtual cpu thusly making a 2x cpu system a 4x cpu system)
or a 64bit processor could help.
oh and look into a RAID setup. thats a nice thing to have on a mother board.
but still, I'd get a mother board that could support dual 64bit cpus and save $$$ for the second processor.
I have a dual xeon 2.4 ghz with hyperthreading just so I can run multiple heavy programs
www.pricewatch.com = I built 4 computers through these guys.
Never disappointed

First: plenty of RAM ... memory.... 512 mb min. and 1gb or more preferred
Second: Dual processors help a LOT with multiple apps
Third: assuming your hard drive has plenty of free space, a good, separate video card helps... on-board video is getting better these days; however, it's tough to beat the performance of a dedicated graphics card.

get more memory modules for it. In order to run Win Vista or XP, and all the other cool programs, you have to have at least 1 GB of memory.
