Because they did not start out as celebrities, but as regular musicians who were taking drugs before they attained stardom. Many rock musicians are risk-takers and that is part of the risk. Also, many are not committed to personal relationships, they are free-wheeling and into "dating" many people, and drugs are part of that risk-taking nature. Later, as they age, and now they're famous, they write about not taking drugs because they've experienced either/or both personal disaster and death of friends from drugs. They learned the hard way. Enjoy their music, but do not use them as role models. Many rock musicians die young. Many have awful lives. And then a few smart ones (like Mick Jagger) learn from their mistakes and clean up their acts. And rock stars ARE following the crowd -- the crowd of other rock musicians. The true independent rock star will not ruin his life or others through the abuse of drugs -- and that kind of musician is rare. Don't worry about them -- they're just a speck of dust in the world of your own. You have good insight to recognize this, and it sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders. Kudos to you! :)

The answer is probably twofold. The first answer is that their popularity creates havoc in their private life. If Brittany Spears was someone people had never heard of, do you suppose the media would have spent weeks talking about the fact that she shaved her head during a breakdown? It seems that the celebrities that have the best success keeping their private life away from the media, are the one's who isolate themselves from fans and media when they are not working. The fact is, that there are probably many more rockers, and celebrities who use drugs than you may think, but they are either not the "flavor of the month", or they manage to avoid the limelight much better than others. Keep in mind that some celebrities go out of their way to keep themselves in the spotlight longer than "15 minutes". It's not that smaller celebs don't use drugs, it may be that they can hide it better.
The second answer may be the fact that they are celebrities. Like it or not, being a celebrity can be quite stressful. I personally am not a celeb(would I be writing this?), but media and the fans, tend to create a lot of pressure on them to be something they are not.(at least not in private). Some celebs handle it quite well, I imagine, but quite a few of them probably need help from drugs, alcohol, food, etc...) As far your third question in regards to why they write songs about the evils of drugs, We as human beings naturally tend to talk most about things that we experience the least. A person who constantly talks about sex, for example, is often hiding the fact that he or she has a pretty bad sex life if at all. Perhaps there are other reasons as well, such singing songs that they think the public wants to hear. Anyways, I hope this helps.

They think its fashion. And something great doing drugs!! And they don't give a damn as to how many people they lead into the horrible effects of doing drugs. But some drink and do drugs to wear out the stress, the tension and sometimes even depression. Rock stars' lives are punctuated by up and downs. If one song makes them famous, one song can bring them right to the bottom. To avoid thinking abt all this, some do take drugs..... :-)

you start out playing for the joy. Then when you hit it big you got all these people catering to your every need and desire. All the drugs and girls you want just givin to you because your a star. You realize the fact that music is an industry all about the money and you start to see what an ugly scene it really is.Drugs are more a part of the rock and roll scene and its been that way since the 60's.Its just a big party when your on tour and its hectic schedual makess you want to do drugs just to keep up,or to relax even. The whole thing is an ugly process that comes with fame and it can destroy even the most upright people

I think it is because they are expected to be turned on and tuned in all the time. Rarely can anyone life up to those expectations. So, the speed them self up and then they have to take their selves down.
Why they sing songs anti drugs because they are hypocrites.
Just like many people are stars or not.

I think it's their lifestyle. On the stage with thousands of people screaming at you and women throwing themselves at you and then on to another city. I think it probably starts out to party a bit and get them "up" before they go on stage. Many of the older rock bands that used to be the wild ones are now drug and alcohol free. I guess they al;l have to learn the hard way.

genuinely, maximum do get arrested. yet they have plenty funds that they are in a position to bail themselves out of detention center. additionally, you like evidence. you ought to work out the guy in the act of doing, advertising or paying for drugs. writing songs approximately drugs or maybe brazenly admiting that they do drugs isn't evidence simply by 1st ammendment (freedom of speech).
