I got a computer with the following specification:

Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4600+ 2.2 GHz
2048MB PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRAM memory
Asus A8M2N-LA Motherboard

It comes with a GeForce 6150 LE chipset. (Err...and has a GeForce 7500LE 256 MB graphic card)

I played Oblivion on it and it runs pretty smooth on Medium, but it kinds of started to lag a bit when it's on high.

I want to be able to play Oblivion at Maximum quality, so I'm thinking of getting the Geforce 8800GTS 640 MB PCIe Video card. Will this be compatible with my computer's configurations?

Yes the GeForce 8600GTS video card will work on the motherboard. (Asus is the way to go!) Your Motherboard has * Three PCI * One PCI Express x16 graphics The 8600 GTS uses 1 PCI-E slot so it'll take up that spot.

Very likely yes. BUT it could be your power supply that may have difficulty supporting that monster card. Its power draw is a little over 100 WATTS. Be sure you have a 500W PSU w/ beefy +12V rail(s). Do not rely on minimum power supply recommendation. You will just run it HOT at FULL LOAD (esp. the +12V rail).
