I was mowing the yard and got too close to the edge of the ditch near our yard. Got the mower stuck and it died. Now it won't start. I am thinking it is a relay switch? Is this hard to replace? Anyone know of any online resource I can use? thank you

It is an older Briggs and Stratton engine Sears model Signature 2000 ellite. Blade is disengaged. Tank is at 1/2 full. It was moved to level ground. I probably did bottom out the blade, not sure. It only clicks no engagement of motor.

Hello!
You have sure got a lot of good answers! Riding mowers have many safety features! I'd be sure the clutch is all the way in! It may even have to be in neutral, or park! Usually you have to be on the seat, putting weight toward the back of the seat! If it still won't turn over, you might have to be on level ground! the blade has to be turned off also! Be careful when you're doing that road ditch! Farm accidents can be some of the worst! A lawnmower can flip so easily, and you don't want that It's pretty easy to get a foot or hand under the mower deck, and cut off a few fingers or a foot! Please be careful! Let us know if your mower starts! Good luck!

I will need a little more info to help
kind of mower?
will the engine spin or click or nothing?
Is blades disengaged? is it on slope and low on fuel?
Some newer models have a oil level cut off swicth that will kill on a side slope. The seat seat may not want to work right on a steep slope.
First thing I would try. Id pull it out on level ground disengage blades check oil and gas then sit down and crank it. Don't work write me more.harddrive

did you bottom out the blades in the dirt? if so, try to clear it out with a stick, so the blades can turn (they may be holding the cutting deck engaged so that you can't start it). this is assuming that you got the mower out of the ditch and are trying to start it on level ground. is the cutting deck wracked out of level? this could hold it engaged also. try jiggling the deck around, lightly step/shake it a bit to free it up. raise and lower the deck engage lever too. if it still won't start, i would check the safety switches for the seat, shift lever, and any others your mower might have. i'd definitely guess that something is tweeked out of shape from the off lawn experience and "killing" the engines ability to start/run. good luck, hope this helps.

The "click" when trying to start the engine is the solinoid. This might indicate a loose wire or low voltage. Check all connections from the battery to the starter. Make sure that the battery is charged. Make sure the battery didn't move around when you ran into the ditch. Some aren't secured very well.

The first thing that I would do it make sure that a branch didn't pull any wire loose. If you see anything hanging loose, then try to figure out where it should be plugged in.
