You already have a decent graphics card in your notebook. It is also almost impossible to replace the graphics card in a notebook.
The faster and more powerful graphics card require a lot of power (>100 watts), that is why they are mostly made for desktops.

What brand and model notebook?

Almost all notebooks have video modules that are soldered to the motherboard and can not be replaced.

Your description sounds like a "ATI X1600 PCI Express" which is a separate video card.
