Is a cradle a good thing to have with a crib? I want a cradle and a crib but do people still use cradles?

It would be best to buy both. A cradle is very small. Your baby will only use it about 3 or 4 months. The best thing about a cradle is that it's very portable. Like, you can move it to the bedroom to the living room fast. The bad thing about them is that the padding is not thick at all. So i only let my son take short naps in his during the day, and i would always have to wrap the padding with extra blankets. They do come in handy though!
Now, a baby crib is a must have. Just buy both, and leave the cradle in the dining/living room. And leave the crib in your bedroom.

A crib is bigger and will last the child till he is ready for a regular bed. A cradle is smaller and rocks and does not have high sides so is only used temporarily, for just a few months.

As to whether or not you should get one...you know, that just depends. If you have a lot of extra room in your house and money to spend on that new baby, then get whatever you want! If, however, you are trying to conserve space just a little and only want to buy what is necessary, a cradle is NOT the item for you.

I had a bassinet given to me when I was pregnant for the first time, and that turned out to be one of those unnecessary items, right up there with the Diaper Genie and the changing table, the expensive diaper bag, the car bottle warmer, the pump, the...

A Cradle is like a bassinet that rocks back and forth, and a crib is a sturdier more versatile, longer lasting piece of baby furniture. Now-a-days Cribs are more versatile and can last until they are older. My daughters crib turns into a toddler bed, and a headboard for a twin bed and I only payed 100 for it at walmart. Bribs are way better and more secure

You can get both. The cradle will only be good for a few months though but they're handy. I liked having one in my room to keep baby in the first few months and then the crib is good for when they can sit up, roll over, stand up (they cannot get out/fall out and it's safer that way). Yes people still use cradles. I bought a cute one but at the time I thought my daughter would look perfect in it. It was a waste of money. They dont stay in it for long and the pad isnt as comfertable as the matress in the crib. But its your baby.

Cradle Or Bassinet

A cradle is smaller, and is usually for newborns to sleep in within the same room as their parents, and it rocks from side to side (typically) -- more like a bassinet. A crib is larger and typically for infants & toddlers.

A crib is better than a cradle. As fast as babies grow, the cradle will only last for days (or what seems like days).

I'm not sure but I think a crib is a more sturdy "bed-like" structure with gates on all sides. It's more roomy and comfortable. A craddle is a smaller place the baby can sleep and it is on rockers to help them fall to sleep while you rock it.
