depends on what the password was FOR

if it was an internet account, sometimes, if the person was a minor, the legal guardians can send a request for password information, but will have to provide information such as the death certificate

even then, it is only a request, and will possibly be denied, as has happened a lot

otherwise, if the person is NOT a minor, there's pretty much nothing you can do but guess

If it is a password to a paid service use the credit card he paid with by giving the number they assume you're the owner and payer and they give you information for it. Or if it's something as simple as a email attempt the find password by guessing his security question.

Do you mean his bank password? His Xbox live password? His hotmail password? His yahoo password? His Windows computer password? His Linux computer password? His BIOS password? Many passwords cannot be found or 'known' But they can be reset to something else.

If it is a windows password you need to reset (Change it), and you have physical access to the machine, try the link provided. It is a method I have used.

click on forgotten password, and or username if need be. there are security questions, but i think you can figure it out with lots of guessing! or you could"forget" those too, i think.
it just takes a little time
he could have had the browser remember his password as well, which would be easy.
