Well there are two main connections on most modern motherboards. The first one is called the P! connector which is the main power for the motherboard. You may have a 20 or 24 pin pin female connector on the board. Hopefully you matched the number of pins correctly otherwise you will have to buy an adapter. It usually located on the right side of the board next to the optical drives. Next you may have a P4 connector which is a basic 4 pin connector that is located around the processor. then you have your SATA connections usually at the bottom right for the hard drives. Or if you're using IDE then it will be located on the upper right. You would use these for optical drives and hard drives. These you gotta becareful with when connecting. You have to match Pin 1 which is usually marked by a red stripe on the cable and connect it to where it says pin 1 on the motherboard and on the Hard drive and or optical drive. If you dont do this correctly the lights on the drive will stay lit constantly or it will not recognize a drive and won't boot up. Samething goes for floppy drives if your hooking it up although the floppy cable is different from regular IDE cables. Its a bit smaller. Anyways all that's left to do is connect the appropriate cables from the power supply to the drives which should be easy just by looking at them. It will most likely be a 4 pin connector for optical and or hard drives. If your using Sata though the connector should be a thing black connector. And if you have a floppy drive it will be a 3 pin connector. Now for the USB and or Firewire cables from the front panel if you have any. They usually go to some slots labeled accordingly located underneath the expansion slots to the botoom left. Just match up USB to USB etc... Then for the small front panel connectors is where you run into problems. They are very tiny 1 pin connectors but are very important because you need them to power your switch and case spaeker and led's etc... Your best bet is to get a magnifying glass and try and match them up with the small pins located at the bottom right. The pins from the case should be labeled if not consult your manual. If you have problems just look it up in the documents if you have them. Those pins in the front are the hardest tho.

First timer? Very challenging huh! Then follow the motherboard manual, step by step. It is usually on the third build when you would have enough confidence and skills that you would just occasionally look at he manual.
