While getting irritated drink a glass of water to control your irritation & think what you have been doing when you were a child. With this thought you will see a major change in your attitude. Try to remind your children about your instructions with a smiling face & see the difference.

First you need to step back and see life from the view of a child. Understand their short attention span. Realize they are impulsive and don't take life as seriously as we adults do.

Then you need to lower your expectations of them to realistic levels. I am not saying you need to let them get by with murder, but you need to realize that they take baby steps.

Now, stop and think about your own childhood. Were you forced to be so structured and accountable that you suffered trying to reach expectations that were unatainable. Or perhaps you had no structure or no one who expected anything out of you, thus making you be too ridged as an adult.

Then, get down to eye level with a child and see their joy and innocence in life. It might add a few years to your life. It might make you smile more and sing more and smell the roses once in a while.

Take a deep breath, give yourself a couple of seconds and try asking in a more constructive way again.
