This issue dates back to our great grandmothers era.
It was considered improper etiquette to ask of a ladies age or weight.
These days its probably more to do with the fact that we live in an "upgrade society" where people are always getting traded out for the new model.
All the advertising campaigns for cosmetics focus on anti-age products for women.
So perhaps women see age as a sign of weakness, or a negative.
I'm 30, and I will always be proud of the age I am...I've worked hard to get here.
Besides these days many younger guys lust for hot older women.
I think they're gorgeous, I look forward to becoming one.
So say it loud ladies....and do your age proud.

No need to generalize this situation. I am not at all sensitive about my age, and I know a lot of other women who are not bothered by a question regarding their age, they don't lie about it and they don't decline to answer. As for the rest, this is their way of mishandling the situation, don't be too upset, it's not worthy.

I am 24. I weigh 156 lbs. on a good day and am 63". I don't mind telling any of that stuff. Or that I have gray hairs, or that my butt makes JLO's look anorexic. I guess I'm not typical. I'm more offended when people don't ask the obvious questions like when I was 7 months pregnant and a guy stared at my belly for like 12 hours and never once asked me if I was pregnant.

Everybody gets sensitive after they reach a certain age. For men it is not really a problem since most women don't care about flirting with older man, as it is more socially accepted. But for a woman that reach this age, it is not funny to be in the old guard, and have more trouble getting along younger male, when it happen, so they try their best to look younger to keep their selfesteem stronger, but they become sensitive when asked about their age, because everything they try to do is to hide their true age, by using make-up and other tricks of the trade... Sad to say, but it is the way we think of older women with younger man that annoyed them, as well as their loss of sexual confidence in their assets...

We're made to be that way. For a woman, age is something to be avoided, dreaded, and blocked at all costs. That's why you'll see so many products with names like "anti-age" or "age-defying." Women aren't being taught to grow old gracefully. They should read Betty Friedan's The Fountain of Age.

It because of some cheesy little saying "a lady doesn't tell her age"-- as if this renders the asker blind and unable to determine if the women in front of them is 25 or 60. Trust me, nobody is ever THAT confused.

Yeah, I am in that boat. I am like this because I can't deal with how old I am; I feel much younger. I wonder where the years have gone that I am already this age. I am ashamed that I haven't accomplished more than I have, as I always saw myself doing more than I have, by this age.
Women are more emotional than men, that might be why it hits them harder.
Aging is just depressing...

People say it's wrong to ask a woman for her age and a man for his salary.
Well i don't mind telling my age, so i can't be of help in this case.

Its all about the stupid tendency of women to remain "young to eternity". Hello??? It isn't so. Its nature's law, every new leaf turns yellow and falls. Most women feel that after 30, life empties itself of flirting and some kinds of joy. Those obsessed with attraction stuff are so. But only a few really good people see the eternal beauty INSIDE. Those people are really "ever-green" who recongize the potential inside people. :-)

I think it has to do with the fact that women over 30 feel they are getting near to the age where they would not be deemed desirable by men. It may also have something to do with them becoming "less" fertile. Personally, I think it's silly.... because if you are confident in who you are, and you feel young... age really truly doesnt matter. :)
