The ants and the spider got into the microwave on their own but I didn't mean to nuke the spider. The ants, yeah, I did mean to nuke them because there were so many of them and I thought it would be easier to clean the microwave with them dead.

Accidentally? How did a spider get into your microwave accidentally, but ants were there on purpose?
I can only guess that , being larger and more mobile, the spider would have been in, or moved to, a "hot spot". Microwaves are not evenly dispersed within the oven, that's why most have the rotating plate. The ants may have been in a cool spot, and would survive for longer. If you were using a rotating plate, then I can't explain it, they should have been toast eventually.
