Essentially, with the President's knowledge, some political spies broke into the Democratic Party headquarters in the Watergate hotel in order to get "inside" information to help Nixon win re-election.

Ironically, Nixon would have been a landslide re-election anyway, so it was a stupid thing to do.

As a result, the investigation into the break-in & cover-up caused Nixon to eventually resign in shame...
