since liberitarians believe you should be able to do anything you want as long as you're not hurting anyone, that means, pro gun, pro choice, pro gay marriage, pro tax cuts, pro assisted suicide, pro legalizing drugs, against policing other countries, does that mean they will abandon the republican party? I mean that sounds better than the republican party and better than the democrat party

It is better than both, unfortunately the party has never gained enough momentum with the status quo of the 2 major parties! Someday maybe, people will wake up and realize this is the best possible platform for individual life, liberty, property and happiness!

Maybe they will abandon the Republican Party (if any still are with them). But where will they go?? Most definitely they will not go to the Dems. And a third party is guaranteed unsuccessful for them, and likely pulls votes away from the Republicans. So then what?

I'm a bit of a libertarian, myself.

Are you sure most libertarians used to be republicans?

I can definately see Republicans who believe in fiscal conservatism & against gun control, but disagree with "morality laws" leaving the republican party.

But I can just as easily see Democrats who believe in "mind your own business" attitude concerning drugs & sex but disgusted with the Dems "If something must be done, a government program must be started to do it" mentality.

I am a registered Republican just so I can vote in the primaries. ALL MODERATES & LIBERTARIANS SHOULD VOTE IN THE PRIMARIES!! Otherwise, we will be stuck trying to choose the "lesser of 2 evils" again.

Jeffersonian Liberitarians are still part of the what is now considered the GOP. As to the others , if you scratch the surface most are still quasi GOP in their hearts and minds.

What is a Libertarian, but a Republican without moral values. "Bastiat" postulated that Government was needed to keep bullies from abusing decent moral people. Republicans believe government is needed but ought to be as limited as possible. Democrats want big government and poor moral values.

Libertarians have their own party. Furthermore, Ron Paul is likely the first real libertarian contender for President.
