There is this old lady called mwanamchungwani which in swahili means ' daughter of the orange tree' can u believe that? Apparently she was born under an orange tree and promptly named thus. The swahilis of the past generation mostly used their sorroundings or occassions to determine the name of a baby.

There are 2 little kids that live a few doors down...the boy is Moosa and the girl is Guppie. I am not even kidding.

When i was growing up, there was a lady that lived near us and her name was Ineda Braa (as in i need a bra) i think we prank called her a few times....i know it was mean, but i was a kid.

Added:
Oh yeah and a friend that I went to High School with named her daughters Mary Jane not too bad, but when you add the sisters name Canabis Anne...it sounds pretty bad.

Hey, check out the urban myth sightings. The orangejello-lemonjello name story was quoted in the book Freakonomics in the section on baby names and success, also the shithead story. Neither could be confirmed. My dad worked in pharma and told me the placenta story at least 20 years ago. Amusing, but probably none of these are true. Well, OK, some dope probably DID name their kid shithead ("it's pronounced Sha-TAY-ed!), but I'm not buying any of the rest.

My vote for crazy name: Charles Manson.

I don't think my son's name is crazy, but it would probably fall under this category after reading Jennifer D's response. My son's name is Anakin James(Anakin is Darth Vader's real name for those who don't know but it also means warrior and I wanted my son to have a strong name). Obi Won Kenobi is the Jedi who trained Anakin in Star Wars. Chalk those names up to pop culture.

My mom worked in the obgyn c-section surgical team a long time ago and they delivered a baby, and then the placenta. Well, the lady thought that sounded like a beautiful name and named her poor daughter Placenta. No lie, true story.
