I have a co-worker who is 18 and married and has a baby, and he thinks that alone makes him worthy of being called a man, or a grownup. He's about the most useless worker there, actually.

Wow! That is like asking a man the definition of a woman. Whew! There is a lot that makes up a man other than the obvious, of course. :o)

If you are asking what most people consider a man should be to be considered a real man, I suppose they should be responsible to all mankind, including their partners and children, if they have any. Responsible to any debts they've occurred. Kind and caring to people. I would hope they are charitable to those in need and not just be self-centered. I would not even think of a man as being manly, if he beat on woman or children. It doesn't take much of a man to do either of those. That is as little of a guy as there possible is, in my eyes and most of society's eyes.

I guess that about sums it up. I have my own definition of what I look for in my own man for my own mate, but you didn't ask for that.

I hope this answered your question.

As far as your co-worker's definition, he is obviously a child boy! Donating sperm through sexual activity and producing a child, does not a man make!

My personal opinion of a man is: a person who is old enough to handle responsibilities on his own. Someone that would have a way to pay rent or buy a home, is independent, confident of himself, trusting of others, etc..
Without being this type of person he can never be a so called "Man". He will never be able to truly love anyone nor be able to handle the responsibly of being married or live with a significant other. Nor will he ever be responsible enough to bring a child into this world and be the Dad he needs to be.

A man is a mature male who sees beyond self, thus capable of doing his part in the world.

Selfishness is inversely proportional to maturity. I think that boy needs to grow up a bit.

Baby, you're looking at him...A man protects his family, provides for his family, loves his family, doesn't run away from trouble, pays his bills, meets adversity head on, makes necessary sacrifices when needed, can be counted on when the chips are down.....

hmm...i suppose the difference between a man and a boy is a man who is someone confident, the right level of maturity, a fairly decent or nice person and is not afraid to be himself.
