The big question is did you see a doctor???? Sprained knee is a layman's term. There are all kinds of damage, serious and minor, that can happen to a knee. But swelling and retention of fluid says GO SEE A DOCTOR.

If you cannot walk, then you have done something serious. A doctor is the only one who can decide what to do, xray, cat or MRI, etc.

You need to see an orthopaedic surgeon to have the knee examined. Your initial swelling was from injury to some structure in the knee, possibly your ACL. This swelling will begin to subside after about a week. The doctor will examine your knee and decide whether an MRI is needed. I would guess that you will need an MRI.

i know how u feel. i am sitting in bed right now. i either have a torn ACL or ligament or a bruised knee. if it is full of fluid i would ask ur doctor about it, it could possibly get infected. as for the MRI a doctor will only order one if they feel that u have a tendon or ligament problem otherwise they will stick to x-rays. feel better

I sprained my ankle super bad in football this season. I thought it was broken and didn't walk on it for six weeks. Then two weeks for it to be completely better. I'd say give it two months before an MRI. They suck anyways.
