I'm not wanting to break my water nor am I asking what I can do to break my water. I don't want to break my water and I'm letting nature take it's course!! With that being said, what really causes your water to break? Can it break with a movement the baby makes, can it break when you sneeze really hard? I'm just curious as to what actually causes it.

Oh I should mention that my water broke with my first pregnancy but it was only a tiny leak and wasn't having contractions or any kind of pressure or pain so I was ust wondering.

There are about 10 natural causes for water breaking and I don't remember all of them. In fact, many babies used to be born 'in the caul' with the bag of waters never breaking until after birth. Mine never broke after 23 hours of labor, but they did break it about an hour before the c-section as an attempt to avoid that result.
Weaknesses in the bag
Infection
Babies nails
Squishing from labor really exploits those bag weaknesses
small holes that eventually tear
Ok..those are the ones I can think of right now.

I was 4 cm for a month before I started active labor and it still took 22 hours once that started. They wouldn't induce me because it was early and it was my first. VERY uncomfortable, but possible, and not always an indicator that labor is near! I am not sure about the baby breaking the water, I'm assuming it could, how else would it break? I know that movements you make can cause it to break (when it is ready to) because my mom's broke with my sister when she turned on the couch to look out the window kinda fast. Hope this helped, good luck and congrats!

Well, the membranes for the water is really think so it doesnt tear easily, once you dialate and the baby drops the more pressure down there the better chances are of the water breaking walk lots to get the baby to drop and it is usually a huge gush like a gallon of water! You should know it is actually rare to be a trickle.
Hope this helped

After a certain time, everything to do inside you that is supporting the baby, containing the baby or is there for the pregnancy only starts to deteriorate slowly. Everything gets weaker because it will no longer be needed in a while.
This means the membranes get weaker and the sac bursts, allowing the amniotic fluid to escape, either in a big rush or a little leak.
Hope this helps

a tiny leak (or a break too soon) can cause infection to the mother and baby.
i was flight lifted to a hospital 2hrs away because I got a leak in my water @ 29 weeks from a car accident. (and was kept in the hospital for 4 days until it sealed back up)
keep that water sealed until it's time for the baby to come!
good luck! God bless!
