where does the nba logo originate from? who designed it and was there a previous logo?

i understand that the silhuoette is jerry west, but who actually made it the trademark of the nba? if there was a previous logo, who designed it? is there a website or book i can read about the nba logo?...please help

From my understanding, there was no previous logo. But you could probably do a search for the history of it to find out more.
