> is the symbol for "greater than" or bigger than

So it could mean Christine is less than 3

If you wrote Christine >3 it would mean Christine is greater than 3

Added note:
The people who say it is love or heart are pointing out that <3 looks like a heart if you look at it sideways, and some people use that as a symbol for love in internet chat rooms.
