i checked the air filter thinking it was dirty or wet....it was neither. I tried to start without it on the carb to see it if it was the roblem, still no start. I just placed the plug on the head to check for spark and none. Where do i go from here?

You didn't say how old it was,is it wore out?if it ran good when you put it away in the fall it could have got some dirt in the carb.If you can figure out how to get the carb drained out of all fuel do that and spray carb cleaner in it.I find that sometimes if you take out the plug and squirt a little bit of engine oil into the plug hole and then slowly pull the handle to crank over the engine a couple of times and then put the plug back in,it boosts the compression a little. But for the most cases its a fuel problem, also clean the air filter.Good luck

if you didn't run the mower out of gas at the end of last season, or drain the gas out of it, the carb is gummed up. now you either have sticking parts or clogged ports and jets inside it. try removing the plug and pulling the cord a few times, then sniff for gas at the plug hole. you will either have no gas getting into the cylinder or too much. did you change or clean the air filter? change the oil? clean under the cutting deck? sharpen the blade? could the blade have been put back in wrong? that could give you trouble with the engine running. it could be many different things, give us all that you did to it, maybe we can solve it for you, good luck.

Very good start, clean or buy a new air filter, and, AND, remove the carburetor bowl. There is a screw on the bottom that holds it tight. It most likely has water in it. Replace the bowl. Now use starter fluid. I know, I know, everyone says not to. But you use it to help fire the plug and get the engine going so the heat will evaporate the water in the lines. Good Luck!

If you mower has been sitting for along time try taking carb apart and cleaning it,,,,most times its from dirt getting in bowl of carb ,,clean out with WD-40 and spray with the little straw that comes with can in to all opening or holes in carb even on the bolt that holds bowl onto the carb
