From your earliest memory, where did you think babies came from?

I thought they came out of the belly button, but Catherine Salmon, my 6 year old friend, firmly told me that they cut off the mummy's leg and the baby came out of the stump!! What were your innocent childhood beliefs?

Well, I initially thought it was the belly button, but then I found out it wasn't and was briefly horrified and intrigued. I asked my mom how they got in there to begin with. She said that all women have eggs in their "tummies" that turned into babies. I thought for a minute and said, "Yeah, but how do you get the chicken in there?"

I didn't think about it, there were no babies around. I'm not only the youngest sibling of my family, I'm the youngest cousin too so its not as if there were babies coming around a lot and since I'm Aspergic, I didn't have a lot of friends and didn't wonder about the usual things.

While other little girls in the Square were playing mummies with their dolls (you know, I don't think I ever did that), I was in the back garden with one of Dad's hammers performing scientific experiments on snails (seeing if they looked like slugs under their shells) or seeing if slugs and snails could swim. I quite liked smashing stones open to see if there was gold or diamonds inside too.

I don't remember seeing a baby close up until I was 16 and my sister had her first child.

I knew the baby was inside the belly BUT I had no idea how it got in there and HOW was it going to get out? I was scared for my mom I thought they were going to have to cut her open!
i was about 4 1/2 .

I truly had no idea and I never cared...at around age 8 my mom brought home a book called, Where Do Babies Come From? and screwed me all up.


I was happy playing GI joe and with my Hotwheels.

Sainsburys, and everytime i went in there with my mum i could never see one on a shelf....she always told me they had ran out of them!!!!!

When i was pregnant with my second my first was 2 years, he thought he could stick a toy screwdriver in my belly button and my legs would fall off...da da!!!! out would come the baby!!!!!!

I thought they came from the hospital. My Mom kept going there and bringing one home (I cannot recall a single instance where she said she was having a baby).

I too believed they came out of my mums belly button. It was quite a horrific image I had really!

I thought they were delivered to the house by a stork. You could order what you wanted.

My mom told me that the stork delivered babies to the front porches of homes. :P
