I am trying to find reliable information on these two subjects. I have to do a persuasive essay comparing Hitler's Youth and the Chinese Red Guard. I am looking for books or a reliable web site. It can not be a .com url however because my teacher will not let us use them.

Hello Ryan: I would like to give you some information on the Hitlerjugend. You may trust my experience (10 year German teacher with a Master's degree in German from the University of Oregon). I regret that I'll not be able to help you as much with the Red Guard, but I will give you some things to consider about the Hitlerjugend that you might be able to use when looking up the Red Guard (as I do think they are similar):
1) The Hitlerjugend was mandatory for any boy aged 10 or older. It did not matter if the parents objected or not. The Nazis would have assemblies in the gym, ceremonial "swearing in" and then the kids would be told they were now a member of the Hitlerjugend.
2) The Hitlerjugend trained young boys to be soldiers later in Germany's Wehrmacht. Hitler believed that in order for Germany to endure for 1000 years, she needed to go to war every 15 years. The corresponding girls' group (the BDM, the federation of German girls) trained young ladies to be wives and mothers--and to bear as many healthy children for the Reich as they could. If they gave multiple births to the Vaterland (depending on how many children they had) they received medals similar to ones soldiers got for valor on the battlefield.
3) One of the ways that the Nazi regime broke down the influence of the Church was by holding Hitlerjugend and BDM outings on Sundays, when the families would normally be in church. Although the Nazis claimed they were a Christian regime, they were constantly undermining Christian groups like this at any chance they could. Attendance at the outings was required and, if a child didn't attend, they would collect him.
4) Think of the Hitlerjugend as a sort of "Borg collective" (if you're familiar with Star Trek). The children were taught to march as a unit, taught songs that they sang together as a unit, and they wore uniforms. This was all done to promote a sense of belonging and to rid the group of the taint of "individuality."
Hope that helps

while reading a book, you're stimulating the human brain. You transform your literacy and reading skills therefore you in the process, become more literate. Despite having today's modern technology, you need to be in a position to read still.
While you're watching t.v. can be good fun, it is not doing anything to your brain.
