The 70's films are dated, and the Sam Jackson sequel/remake fell flat...

The Bond franchise showed new blood can revive the franchise with 'Casino Royale'....and that action/sleuth flicks can be intelligent and fun...i.e. the Bourne flicks.

I think Shaft can be a bit more than a 'blaxploitation' character by taking him to different countries (like he did in the 70s novels, even though the novels were lacking)...and making him a character that is smooth, down to earth, and resourceful...

Not too mention, having 'Shaft girls' that are black, white, Asian, and Latina....

I guess it's up to an adventurous producer, writer, and/or director....

Thoughts?

MM17, I don't know about LL Cool J. Maybe Jamie Foxx? Derek Luke?

jeffadelic,

Tarantino would be a good choice.

(As long as he not use the 'n' word in his production).

A 'Shaft' movie should be above that.

First of all, Samuel L. Jackson's "Shaft" was a weak imitation, but I think it's because he lacks the sex appeal of Richard Roundtree. If they are going to be successful with a remake/rework of "Shaft", they're going to have to find someone who can do on screen what Marvin Gaye could do on vinyl. My first choice would be Denzel, but he's getting old. Wesley's a good actor, but his sex factor has diminished over the years. I'd go with LL Cool J. He could pull it off. (And we'd hope he would!)

No it can't be remade, there only ever was one real John Shaft and we all klnow that it is Richard Roundtree and nobody else could ever be shaft because that man is shaft. Besides the original Shaft movies are classic and are great the way they are so we don't need hollywood coming along and destroying another classic movie and you know that if they ever did try to make another it would be the rock in the role or somebody stupid like that.

Actually Jackson's Shaft was not a remake...it was an updated Shaft...with Roundtree playing Shaft and Jackson as his nephew.Watch it again...as for a re-make..."shut yo mouth"

some things don't need to be remade.

the Jackson version was not up to snuff.

the '70s films don't need to be tampered with. let them be.
