Vista can support DirectX 10 so get a card that can support DirectX 10. The new Nvidia 8 series cards (8500, 8600, and 8800) do just that so pick one of those. These cards also meets your requirements, the 8800 exceeds it.

Just about all modern (anything still selling new) video cards meet these standards. Given a gamers preference and a tight budget I really like the ATI Radeon X1600 series right now. You can pick them up for the $115 range if you look close.

The other qualification that I didn't see listed that I would reccomment to you is HDCP compatibility. Microsoft has implemented a fair amount of DRM (digital rights management) that will restrict some content (like all HD DVDs or Blu Ray) to only play on HDCP compatible hardware. Note: BOTH your video card and your monitor have to be HDCP to allow for viewing of this content.

While the above is right on, while you are looking at video cards. try and score one that will support directX 10. Sure, you may not be a gamer, but what if you are.

ATI is releasing a value video card that will support DirectX 10 and still be under $100.

Any card with a Bit Interface of 256 will handle it easily with atleast 256mb DDR2 ram.

Vista Ultimate isn't anymore graphically demanding than Vista Home Premium it just inculdes extra SQL internet-based security and theft protection.

For the Nvidia series i'd say a 6600GT (cheap) and above will handle Vista EASILY
(I currently own an EVGA 8800GTS Superclock)

For the ATI/Radeon series i'd say any series 9000 and above.

If you want, email me at photobooth77@yahoo.com if you want to compare cards, i've spent my whole life dedicated to keeping up with what's good and what's not in computer hardware.

You should be on DX10 with Vista.

Affordable solution - 8600GT
More expensive option - 8800GTS
For fat wallets only - 8800GTX
