Do this
Assuming you don't have any medical issues,
1st order yourself the book "taking charge of your fertility"
along with OPK (ovulation predictor kit).you use these everyday (follow the direction and timing exactly) and as soon as you get the positive on it (dont assume u WILL ovulate in the next 24 hrs) but instead you will know that from that 1st positive til abotu 2 weeks before your period you will be most fertile.
you should have sex everyday from that positive onwards unless your partner has low sperm count, then you should try every other day til 2 weeks before your period (or til you dont see much CM - the book will tell u in detail about this too).
Meanwhile every morning around the same time, chart your BBT (temperature). Look up how to read BBT and once you're able to read the pattern, you will know whether or not you ovulated that month. BBT tells you when you have ovulated, ..which is generally just a day too late to try to conceive but it does tell you what's going on in your cycle and whether or not you're ovulating.
I find that this is a pretty good plan in trying to conceive for someone who can't tell which day their next period will be and is totally fed up with the "14 days into your cycle you'll ovulate" notion. I understand what you might be feeling.
Lots of luck to you! Hope this helps.

It is a common misconception that your cycle has to be exact length to be okay. The important thing is that the second half of your cycle (Lutual Phase) does not vary by more than a day or so. If you have LP issues then there may be issues with a baby bean sticking.
The other issue to consider is that alot of people do not ovulate on day 14. I for example have a 30 day cycle with 18 day ovulation.
In order to get you started on conceiving I would recommend doing a basal body temp chart (tons of info on net about this - try fertilityfriend.com) or do ovulation predictor kits - I like the Answer Brand. The other good thing about charting is that it will help paint a better picture for the doctor if God forbid in 4-6 months you are still having problems.
Good luck

I have the same problem. I have endometriosis very badly. I will have a period then go 34-39 days without one then I will have one on the 28th day and so on. Best thing I can tell you is to buy a ovulation test at your local pharmacy. When I conceived it was really hard to know so I just had to do it everyday to make sure I did it on the right day.

You ovulate around 14 days before your period. With an irregular cycle you should start having sex on day 10 of your cycle (day 1 is the first day of your cycle, and sperm can live for a few days) and have sex every other day until day 24.

I only ever get my period every 50+ days and have ever since I started getting it. My grandmother never had any kind of cycle to speak of, she would go months sometimes between periods. From what I understand it just depends on each indavidual woman. Was this doctor a man? If you work with any other doctors try asking them, or asking a woman doctor if that would make you more comfortable. If it were me though I wouldn't worry about it. :)

14 days is just an average. Some women ovulate earlier and others later. Very few ovulate on actual day 14 of their cycle. For instance, I usually ovulate around day 21 of my cycle, which usually runs about 32 days.
You can start charting your basal temperature in the morning to start getting a better grasp of when in your cycle you usually ovulate. You can also start looking for changes in your cervical fluid (aka discharge) for signs of fertility. The most fertile type of cervical fluid is very watery and often has an egg-white quality to it. Many women mistake its presence for the early start of their period and run to the bathroom.
The most fertile cervical fluid appears near ovulation in order to facilitate the passage of sperm to the cervix. Be aware that antihistamines can cause your fluid to dry up and certain cold medicines like Robitussin may increase your cervical fluid consistency.
Good luck!!

You can try the ovulation kits. But they can be confusing and not completely clear. Unfortunately (or fortunately) the best way to try is to have sex every other night from the end of the last period until the approximate date of your next period.
