A slice of cheese laid down on the bun first. Then the frank. One stripe of ketchup on one side. One stripe of mustard on the other. Then a good chili. Last, a light sprinkle of finely diced fresh onions.
For me, no kraut, no relish, no mayo. Oddball flavors take away from the concept of a hot dog. The "hot" in hot dog should refer to spicy; not sweet or sour or bitter.
