You only feel nervous the first few days/weeks ---you really do get used to it - in fact, if your anything like me, you'll love it. ---I've been there twice - the last time very recently. Suggestions for feeling secure: buy a couple "beware of dog" signs at the dollar store and put them in the window, or better yet, get a dog!!

I know exactly where you are coming from! I am VERY recently separated from my husband with my 2 1/2 year old daughter. Right now, I am living with my mom, but considering her and I butt heads a lot, I can't stay here for long. I am really scared about living on my own. Not about paying bills or taking care of EVERYTHING with no help, but about safety and security! And, personally, I think that fear tripples when your own child is involved. I dont have any advice, as I haven't yet moved out onto my own, but I just wanted to say that I am right there with you, and scared about it too. I plan to sleep with every light in the house/apartment on, lol.

During the day it is not scary. But at night is when I get scared.Make sure you have dead bolts on your front and back doors.Peep holes are good so you don't open the door to strangers.Make sure all your locks are on your windows work and keep them locked.Caller Id is good if you have a home phone. We have a couple of fake trees and have Christmas lights on them so we can see if we have to get up in the middle of the night.Make sure you have smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. If you can have a dog that is also a Great thing because they can hear way better than humans and can bark if someone would try and get in.Put Blinds up so no one can see inside your House.I have a moniter in my bedroom and one in the living room becuse my kids are down the hall,so i can hear them.

I am sorry I dont have an answer for you. I am a single mother....I divorced a little over 6 years ago, but I am going to be remarried next year. I have lived alone with my daughter for the last 7 years and still sleep with the light on. I wish I could promise you that this fear will go away. Im sorry.

I certainly wasn't afraid to live alone, but I had been on my own long before I got married as well. I love having my own space.

Those creepy noices scare many people. Just, i guess after a while you will know your house and know the noises and you will be fine. Or just invest in a lot of lights and don't worry about paying the electrical bill.

I am used to living alone, eversince i separated with my husband 3 yrs. ago, just pray to God for strength, and all your fears will be gone, you will get used to it, and will love it, but always be cautious not to let strangers know that you are alone in the house, better get a dog as your guard.

people are gonna disagree with me on this but you should buy a small caliber handgun..like a 38 special they are smaller and more popular with women. become comfortable with it and make sure you are confident. This anwser is not the right one for everybody but it would work for me. Of course you have a child in your home so make sure you are extra careful.

Hell no, i looked forward to it. Think of the new freedoms you will now be able to claim. Short of lookin after your kid you can do anything (also you may have to obey the law also, so no naked street walking either :P).
You shouldnt be afraid, you should be rejoycing. Its freedom baby!
