Wow, tough question -- I have so many! Let's break it down though:
Horatio Hornblower and William Bush, from the CS Forester novels. You just got to love those guys.
Jordan McKell, from "The Icarus Hunt" by Timothy Zahn.
Wedge Antilles and his Rogues, from the Star Wars movies and subsequent novels.
Severus Snape and Remus Lupin from the Harry Potter books. (Severus is so complicated, you never know what to think of him.)
Eowyn, from JRR Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings." (Talk about a tough girl!)
Luthien, from "The Silmarillion."
Ancalime, from "The Unfinished Tales."
Robert Langdon, "Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown.
Michael Tolland, "Deception Point."
Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy, "Pride and Prejudice."
and my oldest friends:
Robin Hood, in all of his various novels, and King Arthur and Merlin, in their various novels.

This doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of all of the wonderful characters I've come to love. And just because I mentioned one doesn't mean that the others aren't special to me as well. :)

Raistlin from Dragonlance series books by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. Because he was just plain bad. Although Fizban from Dragons of Autumn Twilight was a very, very good character too, just somewhat underdeveloped.

Viola/Cesario from Twelfth Night.. (yes, it's a play, but it is written).. it has always been my favorite Shakespeare play..

Mordred from The Mists of Avalon.. actually, Mordred from ANY arthurian themed book I don't know why, I have always loved the character.. he is sad about what he will be doing, but does it anyway.. and really he's not entirely wrong..

Kerowyn from Mercedes Lackey's By the Sword.. She was written so well..
