Russia or rather the Soviet Union posted Inter continental ballistic missiles on Cuba during the cold war. This caused the US as a whole to panic because we thought that the missiles were going to be launched at us to start a world nuclear war. So the US and Soviet Union went through a long process of negotiating to remove the missiles from cuba. This is propably the closest the US and Soviet Union ever came to nuclear war.

The USA and USSR were the two big players in the Cuban Missile Crisis.

The US and NATO have placed Nuclear Missiles in Western Europe and Turkey. The USSR and their leader Khrushchev decided to place Short and Medium range Nuclear missiles on their new Alie Cuba. The US found out thanks to U-2 and RF-8 Recon planes. The US responded by placing a Naval Blockade on Cuba. The two superpowers can very close to nuclear destruction. The USSR decided to remove the missiles and US agreeed to removed their missiles from Turkey. Thanks to the CMC, the Superpowers try to make sure they can talk to each other before thing become out of hand. They make the red line, a phone line between the White House and the Kremlin
