For example if I wanted to sell a hat with President Bush's picture on it. Will I get into trouble, because I need his permission to sell his picture, or anyone or thing famous for that matter?

You might be able to get away with a politician's face. But I wouldn't try to do that with sports or entertainment faces.

Many companies also protect their images (i.e., Mickey Mouse, John Deere tractors, Coke bottles, etc.)
