If you're using an LCD, do not use Windex or any related product that contains ammonia. The ammonia will literally (over time) eat through your screen. Not good. On a CRT though, it doesn't really matter. To be honest, all you need is a soft cloth and water. Just make the cloth damp and wipe off your screen. It's fast, cheaper than using cleaning products, and completely safe for CRTs and LCDs alike.

LCD Monitors - damp cloth (prefferably microfiber - nothing too harsh, such as a paper towel) with water, never windex. And never spray directly onto the screen.
CRT - Spray Windex onto a cloth. Never onto the screen itself.

It's a surface that needs to be cleaned without showing streaks, right? Why not windex? Also, most bottled water isn't distilled, just filtered, though the difference is minute.

On CRT Monitors i use Windex sprayed on a soft cloth (terry cloth towel) and wipe monitor down. Never spray Windex or anything else directly on the monitor. For LCD monitors i do the same except use water

We use a foam spray, leave the monitor off, squit the foam onto your hand, wipe the screen, dont over do it, then wipe clean with a damp cloth.

I'd try wiping it with a damp cloth and then drying it off.
