Wouldnt it be smarter to support the Muslim majority in the region? I think it would benefit us more.

If we maybe supported other countries then wouldn't they not hate us. We could encourage modernization and reform and bring stabilization to most of the region.

Like you, I do not agree with the unilateral support of Israel. Although they are the benefactor in the relationship, it seems at times that they are the tail wagging the dog. We have common goals, but our support needs to be realistic. They should be held to the same standard as any other country. There have been too many instances of the US looking to other way when Israel misbehaves (e.g. Lebanon). Although I strongly disagree with the violence that many Palestinian groups encourage, I do believe that they have a point when it comes to our favoritism of Israel. I believe that many terrorist groups have it out for the US not because we're a democracy or even that we're infidels. I believe they hate the US as a direct result of US foreign policy.

Radical Muslims don't hate us because we're not their allies. They hate us because we are non-Muslims. And even if we all became Muslims at the point of the sword (as the Koran demands), they still wouldn't be happy unless we became EXACTLY the kind of Muslim that they are.

Remember, most of the violence in the Middle East (not just Iraq but every country including the Palestinian territories) is Muslim-on-Muslim violence.

As for your original question, the US supports Israel because Israel is the sole true democracy in the region and historically it has been the mission of the US to support freedom and democracy around the world. Even Democrats such as FDR firmly believed in this responsibility.

The US supports Israel largely out of principle; Israel is the only stable democratic government in the region, with freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Iraq may be on its way to becoming one too, but it will take some time.
I don't think that rejecting Israel would make the Muslims of the region like us. They don't even like each other. We may as well stand for what is right. It won't hurt us.

When you choose allies, you want a relationship that is beneficial, but also one that shares similar views. We support democracy because it is the voice of the people.

Israel is a fairly large military power, has proved itself a good friend, and the closest thing to a democracy in the middle east, while most other nations are ruled by authoritarian or totalitarian regimes.

Therefore, we support Israel.

a million. We help Israel because of the fact they are dazzling and that's the ethical project to do. 2. We help Israel because of the fact we get super income from doing so. 3. Bin ladin did no longer attack us for Israel. in fact, bin ladin became into our best pal mutually as we supported Israel. Bin ladin attacked us b/c we positioned troops in Saudi Arabia after Iraq invaded Kuwait. Bin ladin informed us that having "infidel troops" interior the comparable state as Mecca became into an insult and we withdraw or face conflict with him. We did no longer withdraw and instead Saudis declared him accountable of treason for thinking their authority. we've been combating ever considering that. Moslems do no longer hate us for Israel. Moslems hate us for taking their oil interior the 1930's and then toppling their govts whilst they complained. and that they hate us now b/c of how we reacted to 911.

Israel has the only thing close to a democracy in the middle east. We promote democracy so we must support Israel...especially in that volatile region.

Because Israel is comprise of Europeans and most of those in power in the U.S. are also of European ancestry.

People of the same kind always stick together.

It would be smarter if they supporter the majority but when were U.S. politicians ever smart?

No I don't want to support any religion isn't it funny that Bush flip flops on this one-makes me wonder why he is freeing the Muslims that vow to kill anyone that doesn't conform to their religion. But Bush wants the government to be separate from our Christian beliefs. I am American and care not of any country or their practices or religions especially the ones that kill.
