I work in retail and have a 401 k but it is not adding up fast enough. Other companies that would take 6 years manager experience?

I wouldn't rely upon your current employer or future employer to secure your retirement. I'd take that responsibility yourself.

Step 1: Live beneath your means. Whatever you earn, live like someone who earns 10% less (and this is perfectly possible, because you know there are people in your neighborhood who do exactly that).

Step 2: Invest that 10% in your 401k, with company match if applicable, and invest it appropriately for your age.

Step 3: Own your own home, rather than renting.

That's how to secure a good retirement.

Anything in Oil & Gas. There are defined benefit and pension programs that aren't going away in the near future. In just about any other industry, a pension is about as good as social security.

US military. You can retire in your late 30s if you start when you are 18.

A Ford Plant pays A LOT and there is no School degree for it eighther. They have good plans to.
