Yes. His sister should take you before a judge so he can order you to face up to your responsibility. You can be thrown in jail for not supporting your children. If you mean do you have to pay his mother, the answer is no but you would need to file a petition before you are off the hook to her.

Oops, I just got the step part of the question. Sorry. It depends upon what the court decides. His legal father should be made to pay.

You have no financial responsibility (at least legally) for your step-son. His biological parents are responsible for his support. This doesn't mean that you cannot help out the sister and step son if you feel compelled. My husband does more financially for my daughter (his step-daughter) than her father ever has. He does it because he loves her like his own child.

Who he lives with should not effect your legal responsibility. The fact he is a step-son MAY. If you would be responsible if he lived with his mother, you are most likely responsible now.

DID YOU ADOPT THE KID, WHEN YOU GOT MARRIED?.
WHERE R THE BIRTH PARENTS?
WE NEED DETAILS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But it would be nice and could help mend some fences if you offered.
14 is a very tough age and the more understanding and supportive you can be in what seems to be a tough situation could really benefit the kid.
