To know is to understand what happened, to imagine means to know what could happen. The future look, versus the backward look.

I don't know why or if Einstein said that. I do know that, "Anything the mind can conceive it can achieve".
We have within us all the accumulated experience and knowledge of all ages.
Knowledge is static awareness. Imagination is dynamic creation.

Einstein developed theories that didn't even make sense mathmatically or scientifically at the time, but some how he knew that Relativity was a real occurance. If you apply this to the quote it makes a little more sense, the knowledge wasn't there all he had to work with was his imagination. Picuture standing on a boat and realizing that it doesn't feel like you're moving ,but the objects on the beach are, and don't stop there apply that to time, too. Einstein mind was so advanced, that I cannot even comprehend even having an ability even remotely relative to his.
The greats are rare, he was one. Keep an eye out for the next.

Knowledge needs imagination to be of any use.
You need to apply knowledge otherwise it is just information cluttering the filing cabinet of the mind.
To apply knowledge in positive ways, the essential key is imagination.
As professor Ossler once said. 95% of University Graduates just regurgitate what is taught including all the errors. (They are robots.) This is very unimaginative in the extreme and leads to regression over time.
5% are pioneeers who push the boundaries that lead to a better world. To do this you need imagination and a "thick skin."

Knowledge is limited whereas imagination is not.
You can open up worlds that don't exist with imagination where as Knowledge is limited by the amount you know.
You can make huge leaps in knowledge if people set out to attempt to do something with imagination. Look at Jules Verne and the flying machine. It was imagination that started the flying machine and knowledge that created it.
Imagination is the spark that lights the fire of knowledge

oh, this is a theory we use everyday
you can simply know what it means, you can do anything with imagination, but only if you apply it with reality and knowledge, it creates intelligence, thus Einstein was born:)

With imagination, anything can be done. However, with knowledge there are limits. An example would be how a little kid draws pictures of purple cows and green pigs, etc. They know what colors they are supposed to be, but are able to imagine them in other colors. If the world was based 100% on knowledge, it would go nowhere. Imagination is what makes new ideas...hybrid cars, solar energy, ska music.

what is knowledge with out imagination. when you think about it, everything that we know comes from someone who down the line used their imagination. so, without imagination there would be nothing and no room for creativity.

What good is knowledge if you cannot use it. Imagination allows society to progress. You don't have to be a genius to be a great visionary.
