We are buying a house, and while our landlord said he would let us out of the lease, he is now backing out of that, and we are going to have to pay out the remaining 3 months. After we leave, he can rent it out, but do we still have to pay for the power and keep the grass cut until he has it rented or to the end of the lease?

Your obligation ends when he re-rents the property. There should not be power, have it turned off. If the grass was your responsibility in the lease, it will still be until re-rented.

Yes, you are liable for those expenses, assuming those costs were part of your initial rental agreement. However, you are in control of the power usage as the tenant. You need only pay for what is used in utilities and, if there are heating costs involved, I would recommed keeping that setting just high enough to prevent damages to the premises, such as freeze damage to water pipes and so forth.

If your lease indicated that you are responsible for lawn care, you are responsible to handle that situation as well.

if you broke the lease and payed the rent you don't have to pay nothing else.
probably when you move to the new house you'll transfer the power to your new address so that's history and the grass is not your problem since you don't live there anymore.
