We can't have too much debris floating around in space. If something the size of a baseball collided with a space shuttle with 10,000 miles per hour of force it would kill everybody on board. Even something the size of a pebble could destroy a satellite. That is why the little canister of ashes must be burned up in the atmosphere.

Him and a bunch of others. They had a mishap. It fell back to earth. In the mountains in New Mexico. They are going to recover the rocket and retry.

You can't litter in space, it's a law, believe it or not. So remains aren't allowed to be put into orbit. So the point was, he, his ashes at least, got to go into outer space. I bet he's snuck onto the next shuttle though.
