I have a Dell Dimension 3000 Desktop computer. I damaged my cd drive because the drawer was open, I bumped into it and had to force it to close. Now my computer will not shut off. After I tell it to shut down, it just restarts all over again and I have to manually turn it off while it's shutting down. I tried to disable the drive and delete it, but when the computer restarts again, the drive reappears. Can I get someone to open up my computer and take out the cd drive all together?

Do you have Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 installed on your system? If you do and don't use it or still have the install disk try uninstalling that program from the add/remove programs.

What Operating System is this?

Also if this is XP right click on My Computer and choose properties. Click on the Advanced Tab - Click the Settings button under Startup and Recovery - Clear the check box for automatically restart.
Then restart the computer and see if any error message comes up.

Most Dells have a release latch on the bottom of the laptop, once you slide that it unlocks the CD drive and should allow you to pull the drive out. If that is not an option because of the damage you might be able to disable the drive in the BIOS menu (Hit F2 at the Dell Start Screen).

If you need professional help I would suggest a locally owned computer repair shop. The are usually more knowledgeable and less expensive than the Best-buy Geek Squad.

It's not hard to remove and replace your DVD drive! If you can use a Phillips screwdriver you can dismantle an entire computer. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you through it.
