A woman ovulates in about 13 to 20 days. Remember to count the day of first full menstrual flow as day 1.

Yes, you can get pregnant. Sperm can live up to a week inside of a woman. That is just enough time to merge with an egg.

Your bf is incorrect. In most women, ovulation (peak fertility) occurs about 14 days *before* the start of your period. However, under certain conditions sperm can live in your body for up to 5 days... so if you had sex at the end of the first week, it's totally possible to get pregnant. Let alone if you are one of the many women who ovulate at a different point in their cycle.

If he's telling you this to try and weasel you into having unprotected sex, I encourage you to give him a slap on my behalf and tell him not to be such a moron.

You are correct - having unprotected sex with him ejaculating inside of you can lead to fertilization anytime within the time between periods. Sperm in the vagina can live up to a week - and studies are in progress about whether kids the week after or before can determine gender, so it is quite possible to become pregnant at any time.

Menstruation cycles...
i don't think i have to tell you much but i am a high school biology major and according to the rythmn method of contraception, a woman can become pregnant on the 14th day of her 28 day cycle. in other words it is unsafe to have sex six days after bleeding and three days after ovulating because there are higher probabilities of the egg becoming fertilized. To tell you the truth it is best to have sex when having your period, that is if you don't want to become pregnant.

Therefore you are right since you can get pregnant the week after your period because you are ovulating! TELL HIM TO WAIT!

I did.

There you go.

EDIT: Wow, some of these answers scare me. You can get pregnant at any time. You can get pregnant even with the pill or any other birth control. Women have even gotten pregnant after getting their tubes tied.

You can get pregnant before, during, or after your period. ANY TIME!

There is no time that a woman can have sex and not get pregnant. A woman can even get pregnant while having sex on her period.

Hopefully your friend will also not think it is not his if you do get pregnant. Women become pregnant all the time at times they thought they were not supposed to.
